We still buy a local NY paper plus one that comes in the mail from northern Michigan. Force of habit and something to ready early morning while having coffee. Neither has any real national news. Just slanted junk they copy from the Associated Press. We buy for the local "for sale" ads, legal notices, the funny pages, obits, and shreds of local news. I also punish myself by reading "letters to the editor" on a daily basis, just as a reminder as to how scary and clueless some people are (and also some to the converse). I used to think that by buying local newspapers from distant areas where we own land, we might get a feel for what the local people were really like. But, I've changed my mind. Our local paper here in Otsego County NY certainly does not reflect most of the people I know, so why should some other rural paper be different?
