How many of you farmers run a spreadsheet on every field. Last year an accountant friend of mine got me to thinking about this so I cooked one up for 2009 and it left a lot to be desired. It took some discipline for this outdoorsman to sit down and do it, but at least I got something started.
For the last couple of days my back has been about as grumpy as it can be and I can only stand to be in the shop for about an hour before I have to come in and sit down, so I've been working at a new and revised version for 2010. With the help of my wife I got the hang of putting formulas into XL and now it's kind of fun to watch it work for me.
Researching the figures to plug in to it is akin to doing taxes but unlike taxes the spreadsheet can always be off a few dollars without triggering a jail sentence threat.
Anyway, just wondering how many of you do this. It takes discipline and the right frame of mind, that's for sure. Jim
