You say one battery is old. You might want to have it tested. If it's weak, well you know. Something to think about. I have a D17 diesel Allis. Originally it had 2 6V batteries in series. It now has 2 1000 CCA 12V batteries in parallel. The coldest it has been when I have tried to start it is 0 degrees F. It will start easily with those 2 batteries and the slightest whiff of ether. Look your cables over carefully. You could have a cable that may look fine, but closer inspection may reveal a bad connection, etc.
