I know this will sound weird, but check the battery. Dodge in their great wisdom put the coil after the battery, hence the alternator charges the battery which then powers the coil. Works great as long as the battery is good. But if the battery bites, it sucks up all the available current and the truck gets no spark.
I have a 99 with the 318 and have had this happen a couple times to me already. One thing I can do to tell for sure if it is this is to give it some throttle when trying to start it. The truck will stay running as long as the idle is around 1200 or higher. If you let off the gas she will die pretty much instantly.
I also have had loose battery cables on the truck cause the same thing as well. Check those as well.
