Born and raised on a lake in south central FL. Left after college. After Disney you want to take US 27 all the way south. You'll see all the orange groves (remember, there are no orchards in FL)you can imagine. You can take back roads through the groves without permission. Forget picking, fruit ripens in winter. Around Lake Placid you can visit caladium farms and avocado groves. There are also some huge (think miles) green houses that grow for the likes of Lowes, Home Depot, WalMart, etc. These are very impressive with a lot of heavy mechanization and organization. Also fairly recent. South of Lake Okeechobee you'll see all the sugar cane you ever imagined. I'd avoid Miami, unless you can speak Spanish. Keys are a different world. Bring bathing suits and be ready to explain why the boys are holding each others hands.
