Ever have one of those days? It"s looking to be one of the coldest weeks on record around here and I just discovered that the heat exchanger on my 15 year old gaspak has a gaping hole in it along with a good amount of corrosion. Looks like the piece that swirls the flame got overheated/damaged somehow and caused the flame to concentrate where it shouldn"t and it did some serious damage. Take that along with the fact that the AC coil has a minor leak somewhere and has to be charged every couple of years and it"s time for something new. So I"m in the market for a new gaspak/AC combo and was looking at the ones by Goodman. I remember seeing some stuff on them on here in the past, and I"m thinking it was positive, but a search didn"t bring up any of the old posts. I know they have a pretty good warranty at 20 years on their heat exchangers so I like that, and their new stuff is using the R410 vs the old R22 which meets the new federal mandate for 2010 so that"s good. What I need to know is have any of you looked into them yourself and/or have one of their systems in use? If so what do you think of it as far as price, reliability, etc. Basically any pros or cons about them would be greatly appreciated. Too any HVAC guys out there that know of any other "reliable" brands that have good warranties and will last please feel free to speak up. This is a BIG purchase at any time but especially when times are when times are what they are and money is tight as it is, so I want to spend my money as wisely as possible. Until them I"ve got a heat pump handling upstairs, my insert lit and heating and plenty of wood, and a couple of the oil filled heaters in the other rooms so at least we"re warm. THANKS for any info you can provide.
