I am down here in southern MN, right next to New Ulm.
Was rescanning my digital TV channels this morning - too cold to go outside, had to do something. :) Anyhow, I'm picking up a set of channel 6s. Out of Duluth, getting their weather channel, which lists Orr.
Wish we got that sort of reception on an average day, we could get some real assortment of TV for free! That's about 250 miles.
By the way, down here in the New Ulm / Marshall / Mankato area we've had a pocket of cold that has broken records for 4, possibly 5 days in a row. Much colder than the 'Cities have had, and we are a little south of them.
Now they have 5 inches of snow with 20+ mph winds forcast, then back into the sub-zero temps right away.
Getting real hard to get round bales for the critters, between the near 2 feet of crusty snow, and hasn't been above zero in 5 days now trying to start a tractor, and that for a forcast.
We've been spoiled with pretty mild winters of late, I left 8 round bales off yonder about a mile away from the barn. Behind a swamp, couldn't get them until it froze over. Well, now the snowbanks are so deep, can't really go get them. Will run into the swamp issue in spring. Hum. Someone here in management needs to do a better job.... And with this deep snow and bitter cold, the cattle can't get to their cornstalk field either, so I'm gonna need all my bales for a change.

Today's Featured Article - Grain Threshing in the Early 40's - by Jerry D. Coleman. How many of you can sit there and say that you have plowed with a mule? Well I would say not many, but maybe a few. This story is about the day my Grandfather Brown (true name) decided along with my parents to purchase a new Ford tractor. It wasn't really new except to us. The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule. Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
