Bill, If I understand right that you are using the stock ign/light switch for ignition then it will work to connect the alt #1 wire to the light terminal on the switch with no light or diode, but you will have to turn the switch past the ign position to the light position. If you want to connect the alt#1 wire to the ign terminal of the switch,so you need only switch to the ign position then Bob M's advice about a alt light or diode is dead on. amd as he says attach the #2 wire to the bat terminal on the alt rear.
