I did that back when we were feeding out some show steers and I had to put a tank in a lot that didn't have an electric unit in it.
I went a step further. I used the Blue foam. I cut pieces so I could fit it around the corners, front and back. Then put a strap around them, top and bottom. This also helped a bunch. Along with the piece I floated on the top.
