you do have to remove the ash tray cause there are two bolts on either side of it. i believe that your truck has the pull out knob for the lighs be carful with that i broke mine on my 95 f-150 and they are expencive. my radio dose the same thing but then clears up when the vehicle warmed up so i am guessing its someting to do with the cold. good luck
