I've been chipping away at the bulk of it and sand blasting what can be reached. There still is a whack of crude on the deck side of the head's water jacket that is unreachable, but has to go. I just picked up a jug of CLR, hope it works. The head is in the shop at work right now.I'm going to drill one welch/frost plug and the coolant ports for taper pipe thread. The 2nd welch plug I'm going to machine to fit a thermostat. And machine the outer surface of the head flat on that side.So an ordinary thermostat housing can be bolted to it.
