I too was going to suggest a sickle bar mower, but thought he wanted to use a finishing mower for his task. On a road ditch a sickle bar mower works well, as you can use the bar as a counter weight & have the bar on the uphill side. Mowing around water unfortunately doesn't work as well, as the bar ends up on the downhill side. But you can let the bar flex over the slope quite a bit if your water edge is not too irregular. As suggested, snoop around the equipment your state/ county uses to mow road ditches, they have sickle mowers & get into big side counter wieghts and all that jazz. Probably make for very expensive fish, but will give you ideas of what the pros use. You'll be looking for a low tractor, adjustable wheel spacing to make it wide, fliud in the tires to add weight out & low, wide front end is a MUST, front wheel assist might help you get out of bad spots esp with a sickle mower (but you shouldn't have got that close to begin with - tough call, you'll probably not get as close to danger without fwa). Cabs add weight up high, you want just a roll bar, use the seat belt or you wasted money on the roll bar, and pray you stay out of water or at least land upright when you get to the bottom. Practice on the flat land, slow on the slopes, and don't turn sharp. --->Paul
