To howeverlongyournameis. If it sat for 5 yrs. it could be a number of things. you cant hear a valve stick, they are real quiet about doing that, but one or more could be gummed up and not closing fast enough, it could be weak spark, are you sure the fireing order is correct? 1 5 4 2 6 3 7 8 counter clock wise. # 1 2 3 4 on right bank, 5 6 7 8 left bank. it could be the timing chain is real loose making it slow, then when its running the vac advance takes care of the slack. remove the dist cap, put a socket on the crank bolt, and turn untill you see the rotor start to move, then go the other way till it moves, make notice of how much you had to turn in each way that will tell you how much the chain and gears are worn. also setting the timing to specs wont work on and old ford, the homarnic ballencer will have slipped on the rubber mount and will be slow, try advancing the dist some the next time you try to start it and see if that makes a diff. luck.
