You ask why is it always the US that comes to the aid of others? Because we're the US, we're not one of those other countries. We're not only more productive and more capable, but we're more generous. I don't begrudge the people of Haiti even a little. And though I'd prefer to have the aid come from the people instead of the government, it turns out that it takes something like our government (usually the military, since the rest of the government is useless in such matters) to provide the logistic support needed. Rather have my taxes go toward disaster relief than a lot of what my taxes go for.
