We are still going. When we quit tonight we have 24 acres left to help our neighbor get finished up. The temp climbed to 40 degrees today so the snow started to melt. Just hard to get used to looking out at the corn head and seeing snow.
We ran into some down corn today and our only option is too leave it. The snow will melt and maybe there will be something left to go get. It was about 5 acres.
There are certainly places that arent frozen. I only had about 300 bushell in the auger wagon when I found this spot. Was able to make it out but it was close.
A proud combine operator. He swung around to head back and the rear of the combine dropped into this water way full of snow and he was stuck. Deep snow and the tires just spinning on the frozen ground were a bad combination.
It delayed it us over an hour or so but after breaking the first chain and making a few trys the combine was freed. Hopefully before noon tomorrow we can wrap this up and head for home. The warm weather feels nice but it is making a tough job even more complicated as it gets muddy. Oh, dont worry wrigley is there every step of the way. He is napping by my chair right now, big day for him! bill
