I dunno. I'm only guessing, but I'd assume that 1200a would imply a DB model 1200. Somewhere between 65 and 70 HP I think, depending on the age. While I'm no fan of the Brown's three main engine, there's a lot of them out there that ran a LONG time. For every one that did snap a crank there's probably 5 more with 10K hours. That said... there's a lot of things about those tractors that could rightly be considered queer by today's standards, or even from their day. Not bad tractors by any means, but no IH or Ford either in my opinion. Biggest problem today would be parts sourcing as many things are starting to get scarce and some things require some afro engineering to keep them working. To my way of thinking I'd want to give probably 2-3K less for a Brown 1200 over a Ford 5000... so in this area you're talking 4-5K for the brown. Actually, I'd probably want it cheaper than that.... It's one thing to play around with one but if you need an everyday worker, I'd suggest finding something else.

The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
