Even in your home, many states still look for using deadly force only in resisting "immediate" or "imminent" fear of deadly harm. Better hope he had a gun or knife in hand and you saw it. Can't stick a kitchen knife in his hand when he may not have been in the kitchen to start with or the blood splatters don't match it. With the forensics available today to check for powder burns, bullet angles and such during the autopsy and for checking for blood splatter evidence in a room and on yourself, don't even think you can get away with moving a dead bloody body to make it look good for you.
