I have the same problem with my digital meter on the older tractors, the analog guages work fine, the digitals are all over the place for tach and dwell readings. I'm not certain but I would suspect the digital meters might be more subject to RF interference from some of the unshielded electrical components on the tractor. I just use the analog stuff for the older tractors.
