You are a bit older than me but I am still old. Anyway I once flew on a plane with anouther old soldier from Wisconsin. This started on 7 Oct 1986. I was an E5 in 3rd Armoured Div in Germany looking foreward to my last 2 weeks in the Army when the order came in to go to move four M113 APCs along with a bunch of 50 cal machine guns, crates of M16's, enough ammo to start a small war, LAWs, Claymores ect to Rhine Main air base in Frankfurt. As we loaded on a C141 my Capt. said he had no idea where we were going. It was Costa Rica. Over the next few days we loaded everything except the APC's into an a old Fairchild 123. It was making milk runs to someplace. They never tell you anything. We were kept on the base but had beer to drink and played gin rummey, not bad time. I ended up on a flight to the states with Eugene Hasenfur, he was load master on a C123, the sister to the one we loaded, that was shot down in Nicargua several days earlier and captured by the Sandanistas. He was from Wisconsin. The Army didn't let me out in the US. They flew me back to Germany.
