Worked for J.D. dealer when this tractor came out very few people here bought the power steering option because it cost money! If it has power steering it should have a decal saying "power steering" which was usually placed at the bottom of the yellow part of the grill, just below the bottom of the screen. Probably the hard steering is caused by the 90wt. oil having leaked out of the steering sector and all the worm gear and sector is not lubricated! But if this is the case, be prepared for a tremendously floppy driving machine when you do get grease or oil in it. J.D originally used a SCL {sulpher chloride lead} type of 90wt. gear oil, but the closest thing to it now is 85w-140 e.p. gear oil I suspect. We sometimes had to use chassis grease to keep it lubed. This, when added to the natural drag of a wide front end, all of the dry {from lack of lube, spindles, and worn tie rod ends have caused many cases of the horrible shimmies on the tractor, especially when the farmer had the lightweight tubular-type front end. This was a weak point on a very good machine, the 430w{w means a wide front axle}. LGD
