I worked for a charity and routinely turned them down. The typical scenario was a donor who could not sell the timeshare -- either the market was dead, or the timeshare facility was still expanding, and of course selling their new units and only pretending to try to sell the existing ones. So the donor says, I'll donate it. Well, what is the charity going to do with it? It won't sell any better for them than for the donor. And it's an asset that only declines in value over time. The charity is stuck paying maintenance fees for something they can't use and can't sell, and often just forfeit it to cut their losses. Where's the gift?
