how 2 repair a cast aluminum hole the size of a quarter?

I am restoring a 1940 Cast Alumiunm Ford 9N Dash...

I do not want to paint the dash section but polish it. And of course, there is a cobbed hole about the size and larger of a quarter just left of the ammeter gauge that does not belong for that year and model of dash. It was hand drilled, the perimter looks as if a chisel was used to enlarge it, and a small diameter round file was then used to enlarge the interior of it. It's not a very good hole to say the least.

Can it be filled? and then ground and polished to match the surrounding dash? and/or will there be a noticeable patch? What is the recommended technique, process and material to best fill it?
