I had the same problem a couple of months ago. I spent several days trying to figure it out. I kept trying to get the VCR to work with the component cable.. Finally, in the back of the book, it said that component would not work with VHS. So I just hooked up the audio and video input cables, set the player to VCR and started playing a VHS tape. Then I went to INPUT (Source on my remote) and scrolled through all the choices and ....bingo. Felt stupid. If the grandkids had been around, they could have solved it in a couple of seconds.
