I would look it over from the outside and see how 'used' it looks. We had an 041 and an 028 that both got to the point where they would shake some of their bolts loose, even with Loctite. We cut and burn about 24 standard cords a year, so it made sense for us to buy a new MS 440 about 5 years ago. We got it for $80 less than MSRP because it was one of the last of that model. If you don't use a saw that much you might be able to buy a Poulan or other cheap saw, but if you plan to use it more than once or twice I'd get a Stihl or a Husquavarna or something like that. The way I think about it is a pro grade new saw costs about the same as a tank of heating oil around here, and I know which is more useful to me in the long run. Zach
