If I were to hire my work done, $75 is what it would cost me.
Combining and delievery to the bin $35
Planting $12
Spraying 2 passes $15
On pass tillage or notillage $12
Or another way to figure it, for years I have spent about or made payments of about $50,000 a year for equipment. Don't plan on buying or spending that much this year as I am pretty well updated now on equipment. But I have equipment payments of $40,000 coming up for this year. Next year 2011, I will have $20,000 in payments and no big purchases planned. Planter is 2 years old. Combine has 1600 hours and main tractor has 1800 hours.
And I have farmed around 900 acres of row crop for 12 years. That comes out to $55 an acre spent on equipment.
My accountant always comments to me about my small repair bills. I try to keep equipment updated and do my own repairs.
I was not far from getting out,or losing it all in the mid 80's.
I took a full time job at a weld shop along with hogs, cattle and grain farming to pull thru. I look back now and can't figure out how I got it all done. Worked that job for 14 years. I still go help my friend in his weld shop when he needs help. He got me out of a bind and now I am trying to repay him.
