Wow!! If I understand right, that cruise control switch is an actual brake fluid pressure switch like was so common for a brake light switch on the older rigs.
As I understand it, that switch on the Fords is not very expensive or hard to change. If Ford will not replace it, I think I would on my own nickle, just to protect my pickup and other property.
I had an experience like that last spring. I walked through the machinery shed and noticed the brake lights on in my little 85 Model Steiger Cougar 4X4. The tractor had not been driven for over a month, so the lights being on were a puzzle. I got up in the cab and pumped the brakes a few times, the brake lights stayed on. I got to tracing wires and ended up at the master cylinder brake fluid pressure switch that turns on the brake lights. The switch body was so hot that the rubber and plastic plug connector was starting to melt and the switch was burn your fingers hot. The switch was original, 24 years old and never a problem before. Had I not wandered through that shed, I might have lost 80% of my farm equipment including two Steiger 4X4 tractors, JD 4450 and 4020, two 1480 combines, Oliver 1950 T and 2150, two JD 750 drills and misc other equipment plus the attached shop and all tools. I consider myself very lucky to havr caught that overheating switch before it about wiped me out.
