Told the recuiting Sgt not to put me behind a desk. I figured the USMC didn't have that many desks so I joined in May 1965. Sgt got me a three year enlistment.
During the classification tests at Parris Island, I pounded out 13 words per minute on their typewriter and they assigned me an admin man's MOS (0100).
Spent 16 months with a grunt company (K Co-3/6) at Camp Lejeune, NC. Reassigned to Nam (Dong Ha mostly) with another grunt Company (I Co-3/4) in Dec66 running the Company office. Never fired my M-14 but dodged alot of incoming.
Promoted to E-5 in 23 months time in service. Departed Nam (Dec67) and completed enlistment at Glenview Naval Air Station near Chicago (May68).
