What is your location????? 50 acres of alfalfa at 4 cutting a year is a LOT of hay, you will need a lot of equipment. In a cold short climate or hot dry one & one cutting of grass hay won't take so much. Also how are you baling, with a bale thrower? Takes a little more tractor for the newer, higher capacity balers & a wagon. Still, 50 acres is a lot. I would want 2 tractors. Something like the 4020 to mo-co & bale, and something like a Ford 600 series to run the siderake/tedder, move wagons, run a 7 foot sickle mower (for when the mo-co breaks down), the trail bush-hog, etc. Use a big loader on the big tractor if you have heavy jobs, or a smaller loader on the little one if you have light jobs. Doing 50 acres hay PLUS all those other things you mentioned, you reall are looking at 2 tractors. Also you want to be light on your hay field when it's wet & whenever you can - sideraking I'd hate to see that 4020 crushing over it. The front loader won't do you any good either, just make more weight on your crop. Just my opinion, compromise from there. :) I know I don't do anything the way it 'should' be done either... For what it's worth, I bale 20 acres (2-3 cuttings alfalfa/hay) and 15 acres straw every year with a 270 New Holland & a IHC 300 tractor. I cut & rake with a Ford 960, sometimes the mo-co is on a bigger Ford. And sometimes the siderake is on my brother-in-law's 7100 Kubota, that's a hoot! :) --->Paul

Show Coverage: Journey to Ankeny - by Cindy Ladage. We left Illinois on the first day of July and headed north and west for Ankeny, Iowa. Minus two kids, we traveled light with only the youngest in tow. As long as a pool was at the end of our destination she was easy to please unlike the other two who have a multitude of requirements to travel with mom and dad. Amana Colonies served as a respite where we ate a family style lunch that sustained us with more food than could reasonably fit into our ample physiques. The show at Ankeny
