Putting aside the simple fact that all of us here have a deep intrest with tractors and farm machinery, me probably being the one who loves tractors the most. Here's some food for thought, Ive been thinking more about the finacial side of owning and operating all these tractors. Sure its easy to say you have ten tractors and all are used to do various jobs. But ask your selves this do you realy, REALY need 10 tractors, is it more cost effective to operate 4 newer tractors in various hp. to work the farm???? Im taking things into consideration such as operator fitigue on older tractors, ages, condition of tractors, ( ie a few short hours away from a major rebuild), cost of repair, and maintainace. And your "WAGE" represnted as time spent on fixing up all these tractors vrs, less time spent on newer ones. Today you can get quick hitch sytems for your tractors and implements, thus cutting down on the hook up time, we can get tractors with very modern features such as suspension seats, low noise cabs, air con and various others features that let operators work longer hours, saftly! Take those 5-10 older tractors and start working out how much time is spent, maitaining them and repairing. Give your self a wage, (The very first rule of business is pay your self) Let say you do 2 oil changes a year on the tractors. At the oil lube shops the going rate is around 20$ to do your car. We are going to pay our selves 20$ for each oil job. Thats your wage, oil, lube and filters. So you have 10 tractors = 10 oil changes x 2 a year = 20 x $20 each time = $400
With 4 newer tractor working all the time, lets say you do 3 oil changes a year on each tractor. 4 tractors x 3 oil changes = 12 oil changes x $20 each = $240 all a rough gestamite Im not going to break down all the costs, my point is this. Putting aside the nostalgic part of owning all these trators, how economical is it??? In a span of 50-60 years we have gone from 1 simple do it all 30 hp (ford 8n )tractor that did the bulk of the work with a wide variety of 3 pth implements to 10 tractors. Why?

Show Coverage: Journey to Ankeny - by Cindy Ladage. We left Illinois on the first day of July and headed north and west for Ankeny, Iowa. Minus two kids, we traveled light with only the youngest in tow. As long as a pool was at the end of our destination she was easy to please unlike the other two who have a multitude of requirements to travel with mom and dad. Amana Colonies served as a respite where we ate a family style lunch that sustained us with more food than could reasonably fit into our ample physiques. The show at Ankeny
