It's hooey.
Once upon a time parts stores and discounts prevailed to those that needed quality parts located, priced, and delivered to your establishment with pride.
Today there is no apparent value from any source.
Nor can one expect to acquire a quality part at reasonable cost in a timely fashion at all. EVER!
I can not understand how anyone could survive in the Auto (or truck, or equipment) repair business with the parts supply business as it has become.
I've been through a lot of good parts houses and seen every one disappear.
It's been a long time since I've seen an actual substantial mark down. Even at the Napa stores it went away long ago.
Yes they will show you on the tag that you have saved X amount. But don't be so sure the before amount wasn't adjusted.
Many retail amounts are to add some profit into sales to your customers. Most parts are marked up when professionally installed. Some shops love these provided inflated retail prices.
In this day and age I just do not see how a shop could survive chasing the wrong piece of crap part over and over again. Then to see many shops won't warranty their work and determine that "it's got to be something else" and move on, rather than eat the labor and correct the bad parts problem.
