The other problem with these pumps is that they provide only about 1/2 inch head to the carburettor, most fuel goes back to tank. If the carurettor bowl is empty it can take quite a bit of cranking to get enough fuel through to start. Once running the system works well. If there is a gravity starting tank in the hood for kerosene/deistilaate versions (F-14,, W-12, W-14 etc.) then priming the carburettor is easy, gravity does it. However, where the only supply is via the pump (Kerosene F-12 with small chamber sticking up through rear ead of hood or for the gasoline versions of the entire 12 series) then for a dry system you will spend a little time cranking (with the ignition shorted!).
