I think, here anyway, the average age of farmers is 51, my age. Most of our kids are grown. The kids showing have parents that are probably first generation off farm. It is just a lot easier for them to find a place to raise lambs, goats or chickens than cattle. I have two 4H kids (not mine) raising lambs out here. As I am down to one, a senior in high school that is cranker than any bull I have ever seen, it is fun to see the little ones and their enthausium. However, if you have to do it in the back yard chickens and rabbits are the way to go.
