hey warrin . alot of people ask the same ouestions that you did about a floor in a building. i pour concrete in ohio mostley heavy highway. just pour your floor right up against your skirt boards and your poles . as far as thickness goes if you go with a class c mix design witch is a 6 and a half sack to the yard mix you will get the same or more strength with 4 inches thick as you would 6 inchesof regular 5 sack.yes its going to be more cost per yard but you will use less concrete and you will have a stronger floor. as for doing half at a time you can put in a half inch expansion joint on your second pour where you left off on your first pour and you will be just fine.if you want to tie the two slabs together you can drill the slab with a roto hammer about every 30 inches and install red head hookbolts. any readymix concrete supplier carries them. either way will work .just be sure that if you hookbolt the slab together that you line up your saw joints so you can control how the slabs crack. if you have any more questions e mail me . hope i helped. signed slipform123
