I wet down the floor before I paint. Just lightly to keep the dust down. I think no matter how careful you are, you will pick up the dust in the air and push it onto the metal while painting unless you have a paint booth, and if you look carefully at some of the new cars you can still find airborne dust in the paint, so even that isn't a cure -all. The only way to completely eliminate the dust that gets in the paint is to use a fine sand paper after painting and follow with progressively finer compounds and polishes, simply a lot of hand work after the painting. If anyone has an easier solution, I'd like to hear it also because I have the same problem and all that rubbing and polishing can be alot of work.
