Toro makes an incredible grounds keeper type unit. 4x4 and power to spare. Of course they are in the 8 to 10k range new I was told but if it is your price range I would check it out. Myself I run Yamaha because that is what is available locally and have no complaints. Got 7 of em ranging from an 04 back to an 89. All I can grip about is that no cheap aftermarket battery is as good as the ones they came with new.
Friends and family have all different brands, have seen a bad one yet unless it was abused. I have noticed that the newer Yamaha's are better on fuel than some. Some Polaris are a bit sluggish and some will take your breath away. Old friend of mine has two Kawasaki's, one would not pull the hat off of your head the other would replace a small tractor. My 04 yamaha is a 400 with an ultramatic trans. Plenty of power and anyone can run it without hurting it. Drove it 30 miles through the ditches and used far less than a gallon of fuel. The 2 stroke polaris with us used close to 3 gallons.
