Just did that on an Allis 'B' engine.

Check your motor manual for proper bearing clearance. The process is, torque the bearing cap with Plastigage in place. Shim if necessary (usually is). Re check with Plastigage.

I couldn't find any pre-cut shim stock so I bought brass foil shim stock at NAPA. Cuts with sissors.

It sure makes you appreciate modern engine precision. Shims are a big time consumer.
