I was a Howard rep for a dealer long ago back in the day when they were heavy enough to tear up a road. The only tillers heavier WERE built for tearing up roads, Seaman Gunnison by name. If the rocks are little, it will spit them out the back. If they are bigger, the tiller will jump. What is real trouble is solid ledge rock if you have that. But like the other fellows say, if you've got a lot of rocks, you will get a lot of repairs. If you're starting into fresh ground, don't try for a seed bed in one trip. First trip, 2or 3 inches deep, just rip the top off it, then go away for a week and let things die. Come back and do it again. If you try for a seedbed in one go, you can do real damage to your soil structure. Best of luck. Kuhn tillers are pretty good too.
