I always had beagles. Had a 3 month or so pup and wanted to start her so had a live trap out and caught a rabbit. Carried the trap home and set it in the yard while we had breakfast and done chores. She discovered the rabbit as soon as I let her out and barked constantly. Couldn't watch her,so put her in the trap with the rabbit. Figured I'd go back to a dead rabbit cause things were quiet. About an hour later, I find the rabbit laying in the trap like it belonged there and the dog asleep with her head on the rabbit. About a month later, she was loose while I was working in the yard. Heard her barking and a rabbit hops into the yard. Only had a 22 and shot it, it kept going so I figured I'd missed (it wasn't on the frt porch eating cat food). Here comes my baby, yipping and squaling right where the rabbit had gone like a pro. Things got quiet and I kept on working figuring she'd lost the trail. When she didn't show up, I went looking and found the dead rabbit with her laying with her head on it. Turned out to be the best dog I had, just had to make sure I killed the rabbits in their tracks.
