I"ve spent the last few weeks back in the baggage area of the Charlotte airport installing new baggage conveyors for one of the major airlines. Seeing what I have seen when it comes to the baggage it suprises me that any of the bags ever actually get to where they are supposed to be going. By that I mean I"ve seen the same bags go round and round on the on the conveyors ((behind the wall where the public is not allowed)) all night long or simple sit there on a dead conveyor from the time the airline shuts down operations for the night until they pick things back up the next morning. Thursday night there was a stack of bags stacked as high as my head and close to 50 feet long that were just sitting there all night, noit even on a conveyor.....where they were going or what the deal with them was I haven"t a clue.
The amazing thing is to see what all comes off of the bags. If you think a lock actually is doing your bag any good, think again, as the most common item to see lying around under the conveyors is those little locks and the keys that go with them, along with foreign coins, luggage wheels and handles, ID tags, etc, etc, etc.
It"s an amazing operation but ultimately I don"t see how they keep up with even half of what they do........
