Back in 1979, I was a parts manager at an AMC/Jeep dealer and sold a customer a Warn winch for his CJ-7. Two weeks after he got it, he came back in...one of the drive gears had most of the teeth stripped off. Looked to have been faulty casting or something, but the company wouldn't stand behind it in any way, shape, or form. I all but pleaded on the purchaser's behalf, but the company said there was NO WAY that what I saw on that gear had actually happened.
So as a measure of goodwill, I bought the customer a replacement gear, and I learned my lesson about Warn's warranty. The next customer who asked me about one of their winches, I advised him to go elsewhere and buy someone else's product, because Warn didn't stand behind the previous one. BTW...the replacement gear held up for the customer.
Just my experience...yours may be different. But IMHO, Harbor Freight's warranty couldn't be much worse.
