Back in the mid '80s, I worked for a company that built a car hauler. This type of car hauler was basically a one-ton dually that hauled the car on the back bed. We initially put Warn winches on the things, but had a lot of customer complaints about them. The factory actually sent out two guys to did a silent recall on the winches and rebuilt them with stronger parts. I remember asking them if this was a permanent fix or will we still be having problems with them. They assured me that it was a permanent fix. The company still had many problems with the Warn winches and finally switched to Ramsey. Maybe they didn't use strong enough Warn winches to begin with, but the winch problems went away after they switched away from the Warn winch. To this day, I won't use a Warn winch.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
