I suspect your coyotes are bigger then the ones we have. I know there are several distinctly different groups of coyote types in North America. We have coyotes all over the place and they rarely bother anthing or anyone of size. They are the Adirondack strain and tend to be small and non-agressive. They also tend to be very shy. I've found their tracks many times where they walked up to my barns and peeked inside - but didn't dare go in. That even though there were baby goats and chickens inside.
My neighbor has radio collars on many the the NYS Dept. of Conservation has been observing their patterns of behavior. I'm sure they kill a weak deer, or a housecat now and then - but many more get blamed for things there were probably done by domestic dogs.
