Sounds like a front seal rather than the rear seal. No key on the rear which would be next to the flywheel. Get tuff with the key and use a dull chisel. That key is a hardware item, you can pick up a new one. Just don't damage the crankshaft. Hit hard enough it should pop out. The spiral groove will not damage the lip seal but will seep oil after you shut off the engine. Speedy sleeve is the best but JB Weld will plug the groove from seeping if it has been smoothed properly. The spiral groove is to draw the oil back into the pan while the engine is running with the cork seals. The wider width of the cork seal keeps it from seeping oil as long as the cork has not dried out. Most if not all cork seals had a dirty oil witness back of the crankshaft pulley anyway. The lip seal without a speedy sleeve or the spiral filled will have some oil drips.
