I have two stories, one was the first tractor when I was a kid. I was in high school (10th grade) and had been farming with my dad for as long as I could remember. In fact when I was 3 I rode on my dad's lap on his 4000 Ford gas when he was cutting have with an old JD sickle mower. In 1981 he bought his 3rd new tractor (and biggest). The other two new ones were an 885 Case and then traded for a 990 Case. Neither of these would pull a round baler to suit him on our hills so he got a 5600 Ford. I'd not really got to use the Cases but oh I loved that Ford. We still have it. I just loved that blue paint. Last year I bought my first "newer" tractor. Over the years since 1981 I've either used my dad's stuff or what ever "heap" I could get cheap, fix up, use a year, and sell at a profit. This past year I was able to buy an '89-7710 Ford. For a lot of guys this isn't a new tractor but compared to some of the "heaps" I've been using it's like a new Cadillac. Incidentally, I bought a heap last year, a 1410 Case, that I've spent enough on to make a new one. Paid 5K for the tractor and spent another 5K replacing everything from the clutch forward. My dad offered me the 5600 for 10K, should have bought it. Guess they hold their value, he paid 11K for it new.

Product Review: JB Weld - by Staff. JB Weld is basically an epoxy glue that does an exceptionally good job of bonding to cast iron and steel along with several other materials. As I mentioned, it is so common that I have yet to buy a tractor that did not have JB Weld used somewhere. It is sometimes used so well you can't tell its there and other times used as a sloppy quick fix. Finding where and how it can be used correctly is key to whether you are using it as an "inelegant hack" or an integral solution to difficult and expens
