In the fall of 1999 my brother-in-law sent his 1981 vintage 4440 to my place for a facelift which included new rad,front dampner,hoses,interior etc,etc. I had about 60 hrs labour in it by the time I had it all done including paint and decals. With regard to the subject I'll move on to part 2. I had tried to arrange time to get it back to him but wasn't having much luck but then had a chance late on a Saturday. My daughter came along for the 3 hour drive so I was not at all bored. Anyway when we drove in my brother-in-laws lane,he was snapping off all kinds of photos of his "new" 4440. "Do you know it would have been Mothers birthday today?" he asked. "No, I didn't know that" I said. Well says Mike, it was exactly 50 years ago today,Mothers birthday that I watched father drive up that same lane with a brand new model D John Deere. They still have the D and will pobably have the 4440 for another 30 years too.
