Ha, reminds me of a scene from Shanendoah with James Stewart. Stewart had a daughter whose boyfriend asked for her hand in marrage. Stewart looked at him and asked, "do you LIKE my daughter?" The young man replied, "I live her". Stewart said, "Of course you are in love with her but thats not what I asked you, I said do you LIKE her. Stewart went on to describe the difference using his late wife and their marraige to the young man as an example.
Point is, you can be in love or infatuated with someone but not really "like" them. Maybe her actions now should make you re-evaluate your true feelings for her. If she would be selfish enough to do this to you at this point and treat you like an imbecile, obviously she has been in love with you but didn't actually like you at the same time. I also agree it sounds like she has found someone else and is in the "how do I get myself out of this mess" phase. The house sitting thing sounds like a total BS story to me and intuition...while sometimes wrong...often serves best. However it turns out I wish you the best, move on and don't look back if she walks and if she stays...make damn sure she is as commited to the relationship as you are. She doesn't seem worthy of your devotion to me.
