Caller ID is good. Once in a while I'll get snagged. If it's the diabetes folks, or cancer folks, or hospice, I figger they've got my name from a funeral memorial contribution (instead of flowers). I tell them the truth - I'm on a fixed income - my buddies are all dying - and if I live long enough, you'll get another turn. Then I thank them for calling and tell them that I respect their efforts, just can't afford to contribute. One lady was actually in tears. Made me think she was either genuine or a real good actor.
I have no patience with the scammers. The one that comes to mind was a soliciter for the "local" Vol fire dept. I played dumb (easy fer me) and told him I wasn't sure what fire dept served my rural area. Turns out he was in another state and didn't know either. I have NO problem contributing to our local firemen, but I want them to receive every nickel of my contribution. Another "Not interested", and hang up.
