Went to a transportation conference today in Peoria,IL and was a LOT better than the typical day at work. US Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood (Peoria native) was first to address the group before leaving for Chicago. Caterpillar CEO elect Doug Oberhelman (Peoria area resident) then addressed the group on the global economy. Excellent presentation by the US Project Manager on rebuilding the Panama Canal.
BUTTTT, prolly the highlight of the day was the Caterpillar demonstration tour (keeping with the tractor theme). After the indoor demonstration of a lot of their equipment, we were able to walk around, photogragh and climb on a lot of BIG IRON - never seen that before. 140M Blade, 992 wheel loader, 777 offroad truck, D7E (diesel/eletric)dozer and a D-11 dozer - all of them had the keys in them but kinda figured I'd get in trouble if I twisted one!
Got back off the charter bus at the conference center, and they even had a Happy Hour! Can't ask for much more of one day of "work" - plus got paid for going.
