Some mention has been made recently about cops giving tickets for things like trailer-balls blocking license plates in NY.
Here where I live in central NY, we've had two innocent people get killed recently by run-away vehicles. One was a lady who was asleeep in bed when a truck went off the road, through her house that is 100 feet from the road, and into her bedroom. Yet, the guy that killed her was not held responsible. Note it was a clear day and clear road - not that it should matter.
Now? Yesterday some lady was working in her garden in the same general area. Some guy's Ford Expedition rolled out of his driveway (it was parked and unattended), went across the road, and killed the lady. Cops were quoted today as saying it's not the owners fault and "must be a mechanical malfunction."
Seems few people know about the new fangled invention called a "parking brake" anymore?
I suspect the jerk parked on a hill, jammed it in park, and figured "good enough." Now I'm waiting for Ford Motor Company to get blamed.
I have to admit it ticks me off when State cops getting paid $75,000 a year are busy giving tickets for not wearing seat belts - but ignore things like this?
I bet if my tractor rolled down my hill and killed somebody, I'd be in jail now ( I did have a round bale go down my hill once).
