We have to pull the pistons on a 971 Ford gasser. I was under it today with the pan off checking things and and letting the oil drip into my eye and down my cheeks without so much as flinching. So we do this evenings and weekends at a giant machine shop where my friend works. The place has a pair of 5 ton bridge cranes. Why couldn't we pick the tractor nose straight up in the air and work on it that way. Drain All the fluids out of it, pull the head, lift it so it sits on it's rear and do the rest standing up. Yeah you can remind us about the safety issues but believe me, we wouldn't try this at home. Be fun to do wouldn't it? If you could? Be easier too I think. If you have to pull the pistons anyway? Because whoever "rebuilt" the engine put all pretty new sleeves, pistons, rings, etc but didn't know you have to renew your upper rod bushings once in a while. But not to get side tracked there. Gonna hang the tractor one night this week I hope. Maybe can get some pictures.
